The 'Switch' or 'Panic grass' These grasses are known for both their very upright, vertical habit which makes a wonderful accent amongst mixed planting schemes and the fact they also develop strong autumn foliage colours. Topped with the fact that the masses of flower heads although large, contain really small spikelets spaced apart, this gives a nice smoky, misty effect particularly in the late autumn. Flowers arrive from August onwards and the autumn foliage colours turn as the colder weather starts. Prefers full sun & well drained soil.
Panicum 'Squaw' forms mounds of green foliage topped with masses of tiny purple flowers from midsummer with great autumnal shades of red, orange, to yellow.
