Tetrapanax papyrifer ' Powis Rex'

Tetrapanax 'Powis Rex' has much deeper divided lobes on the slightly crinkled leaves than the standard species, much more difficult to obtain. The seed was originally collected by Crug farm on a trip to Taiwan funded by Powis Castle, Mulu Nursery then obtained some and named it 'Rex' over 20 years ago ! & this is where these plants originate from.

its also known as the Chinese rice-paper plant a super exotic, jungle effect shrub with massive jagged palmate leaves up to 60cm across.

Extremely fast growing in warmer weather, giving a spectacular show, it will stay evergreen in milder regions but will be deciduous in colder areas and require a small amount of protection. remove any tatty leaves as required and cut back to required size in the Autumn, it will produce creamy white globe - like flowers on branching stems in late Summer to Autumn.

Prefers a sheltered spot. in rich fertile, moist but drained soil in sun to part shade. perfect for containers and mixing with other exotic effect plants such as Banana, Cannas and Phormiums.
