Cyathea australis is a hardy tree fern native to South East Australia, known as the rough tree fern due to its knobbly stems, and one of the oldest surviving plants in the world harking back to prehistoric times. Extremely slow growing, hence their normally expensive price tag . They make a dramatic statement in any garden once mature, a mass of roots form the thick trunk, from which long dramatic filigree fronds emerge, resembling monkeys knuckles, unfolding in the spring as the weather warms. Perfect planted in a shady spot with other ferns, or in an exotic planting scheme.

Eventual Hgt 4m+ x Sp 4-5m Preferring part to full shade in a moist but well drained soil. keep moist at all times, particularly the foliage.
