Cynara Cardunculus

Known as the Ornamental Cardoon, or artichoke this stately perennial is now grown for its very tall & striking silver, thistle like foliage, which are then topped by big fat intense blue thistle buds resembling small globe artichokes. These then open into large purple thistle flowers which look good left standing into the winter months providing seeds for birds.

Grows in a fertile soil, moist but well drained in full sun .
