Cercidiphyllum japonica also known as the Katsura tree is an unusual, slow growing, deciduous, multi branched small tree or shrub, that produces tiny filament red flowers on its bare branches in spring, then developing heart shaped, green leaves that turn a marvellous rich orange/pink/red colour into the autumn, whilst the fallen leaves give off a pleasant aroma of caramel or candy floss.

Grown in full sun to dappled shade in a moisture retentive soil, this small tree or shrub will steadily increase in size, although it can be kept to a required size by selective pruning in early Autumn.
