Panicum virgatum 'Hanse Herms'

The 'Switch' or 'Panic grass' These grasses are known for both their very upright, vertical habit which makes a wonderful accent amongst mixed planting schemes and the fact they also develop strong autumn foliage colours. Topped with the fact that the masses of flower heads although large, contain really small spikelets spaced apart, this gives a nice smoky, misty effect particularly in the late autumn. Flowers arrive from August onwards and the autumn foliage colours turn as the colder weather starts.

Panicum 'Hanse Herms ' has dense green leaves that turn a deep burgundy- red colour into the autumn, the erect stems then bear airy heads of diminutive purple flower spikelets from late summer into the autumn.
