Panicum virgatum 'Sangria'
Panicum 'Sangria has flat, linear, mid green leaves which develop rich very dark red tips then increasingly red down the full length of the grass into the Autumn, then fading to yellow. Airy, tiny red-green flowers are produced mid-summer to early autumn.
These grasses are known for both their very upright, vertical habit which makes a wonderful accent amongst mixed planting schemes and the fact they also develop strong autumn foliage colours. Topped with the fact that the masses of flower heads although large, contain really small spikelets spaced apart, this gives a nice smoky, misty effect particularly in the late autumn.
