This section features the type of grasses that we describe as being “Late season”, that is, because they originate from warmer climates they tend to start into growth much later in our gardening year.

So they have their greatest impact in your garden flowering into the late Summer, Autumn and beyond, often becoming the stars of the winter garden with their stunning flower heads and foliage becoming dusted with frost.

They tend to be taller, and stouter varieties of all the grasses and as such best planted singly as specimen plants or in groups of 3-5 plants or in drifts or blocks. They look great mixed in with later flowering hardy perennials such as Rudbeckias, Echinacea, for a classic Prairie style effect.
